showing recent posts from a forum to a webpage

I am new to php/MySQL but I am not completely clueless. I just installed SMF 1.4.1 Beta and it seems to be running fine. I want to show the last 5 posts from the forum on my index page of the website. I want to do this...um...dynamically without having to hardcode the thread_id,message_id etc. The page should update automatically whenever someone posts something new on the forum.

Is this possible ? If so...how would I go about doing it ?

Any help is greatly appreciated.

I was having problems getting it to work because I  wasnt using the full path      /home/blah/public_html/...etc
But it works now.

mm strange why does the poll work here, and why doesn't it work on my ssi_examples.... hope that this bug is fixed soon...
