Are you using a custom theme?  Do you have any mods installed?  What version of SMF are you using?  Have you verified you are using a theme that is compatible with your SMF version?  Have you verified your mods are compatible with your SMF version?

Using the default theme, version 1.1 RC 2, lots of mods installed, again using the default theme that came with 1.1rc2.  All mods are compatible.
