how to change catbg.jpg and catbg2.jpg

I'm trying to create my own theme for 1.1rc2.  I have copied the default board and have changed some colors in the style.css .  However when I load the board, it shows my new colors for just a few seconds and then goes back to the original blue.  I think it must be the catbg.jpg and catbg2.jpg but not sure how to change these images.

I hope you don't forget to clean refresh your forum. You should hit CTRL + F5 after image and style.css changes.

Oh I see. Yes you have changed style.css background colors, but when there are images, the background shows up for only a few seconds, until the images are loaded. When the images load, you get images.

You should have an image editor program for editing the images, of course.

I have opened up those images in paint shop pro and they apear as a grey color not a blue.  I figured this was to creat the fade that we see, not how to get this same fade but with a brown tone instead of the blue.

If you don't have enough knowledge of image manipulation, I suggest you to learn it first. Because theme editing is 80% image manipulation.
