SMF Version: Version not known
Okies I just got all those mysql details sent through by my host, I typed them all in but I'm having no luck  :'(
I get this:
"Cannot connect to the MySQL database server with the supplied data.

If you are not sure about what to type in, please contact your host.
Can't connect to local MySQL server through socket '/var/lib/mysql/mysql.sock' (2)"

if I change the localhost bit I get an error saying access denied so I think something's up there  :-\ I'm really confused! hehe!

sawz

localhost is correct
you'll need a mysql user name
and the name to the database
and a password

is this what your supplying to the install script?
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

Rubyforlife

Yes, I'm pretty sure I'm entering it correctly:)
I have a funny feeling it's something to do with my host though because my details haven't come up in my control panel yet and I recieved them in the email a couple of hours ago.  :-\

sawz

are you able to access your cPanel, and if so, create your database
and user?
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

Rubyforlife

Hmm, well I was in my cpanel, and it said:
"Action Error

This facility is not available. If you would like to enable it please contact us."

So I contacted them and they sent through the details a couple of hours ago =] but then, I went back to cpanel to check but it still says as above that it's not available  :(

sawz

nice host, should of been enabled right away, and i do mean right away, no waiting.
if you don't mind saying, who is your host?
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

Rubyforlife

O_O!!!! wow!! they just sent 6 emails and each time the details changed!  :o
And their reply to my support ticket looked very automated -_-
I guess they sure messed that up xP

Hopefully it'll work now :D
Thanks for your time!  ;)

Edit: my host is streamline.net

sawz

good luck, seems your going to need it
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

*ready to write an angry letter* XD

Edit: That's it now :) finally!

sawz

please keep us up to date on your progress
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

Rubyforlife

Hmmm...still getting that same error message  :(

sawz

keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

Rubyforlife

No change in the cpanel but I did manage to get into the phpmyadmin thing, but I don't really know what it is or if it has anything to do with this :-[ hehe!

sawz

your gonna want to create your database and user through the MYSQL link in cPanel.
if your not familiar with phpmyadmin, leave it alone till you learn.
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

Rubyforlife

Thanks very much :)
I'll wait to see if anything happens with cpanel, I sent a response to my support ticket again, hopefully this time I'll get a proper reply :D

sawz

i don't know how long you have been with this host, but if they can't help you, it may be time to move on.
keep smiling, they'll always wonder what your up too.....

I got all that sorted I think so I've gone back to setting it all up today =] but i'm not getting very far  :-[
They said I need to go into the phpmyadmin to sort all the mysql stuff but I'm not sure what I'm actually meant to do  :-[ i logged into that and I've got my database name but then it mentions tables and fields...eh? XD
I really don't think this is what I'm meant to be doing, can someone clear that up for me please?  ;)

Edit: Yay!!! Doesn't matter ;) I got it!! *happy*
