Replace login with header?

Hi all,

If been working on my site and i came up with an idea for my header but it would be nice if someone could help me a bit here. 

Im using the default theme and i would (if possible) like to place my header/logo in the section where the login shows up now. Now it shows:
you have 0 messages, 0 are new
Show unread posts since last visit. | Show new replies to your posts.

Total time logged in: 6 hours and 10 minutes.

I want to keep the Hello maydayke  June 01, 2006, 12:51:51 PM  and the News section but replace everything between with a header for the full weidth.

I tried many things in index.template.php but i can't get it working properly.
Anyone has an idea to do this?

Is it showing up when you're a guest? And if so, have you changed the part that get's shown to people who are logged in?

Oh sorry but i think i explaned it wrong.

When you are guest it shows a login and when you are logged, it shows the "you have 0 messages, 0 are new" stuff. Now i would like to replace all that and just putt a header/logo there.

So i have something like this:

Hello maydayke                                                                                June 02, 2006, 12:48:50 PM  
                                            Only header/logo here
News: whatever                                                                                Searchbox

This is what i would like to have.
