Avatar Area

I would like use SMF to create (can you Believe it ) an Online Bulletin Board , where people who post things on a cork Bulletin Board in a store can also do it online.

I would like it so ythat the area where the avatar is ( whatever that area is called )  has nothing in it except a logo from the stores that the Cork bulletin boards are in ( in example the grocery store  and the variety store )

I would like to get an avatar that changes from one logo to another every 30 seconds or so

• where do I look to see the coding for the avatar area
• what is the easiest program to use to make a animated gif file
• Is there any one out there who would like to walk me through changing the coding so I can turn on or off all information in the avatar area
