SMF Version: Version not known
Hi all - i'm really stuch getting going

Fistly I'm new so please don't use IT words like directory - i don't understand

Secondly, when trying to install I do not get the smf installer form asking for various settings such as forum name and forum url.

Perhaps i have not set the permissions correctly on Settings.php and Setting_bak.php. However when i right click on these and go to change permissions all i get is 3 rows of 3 tick boxes - there is no uption to change to 777 as suggested on the smf help manual.

cheers

What version are you trying to install?  Are you installling it yourself (uploading the files to your website) or are you using an auto-installer "button" on your website's control panel?

Do you have an FTP client installed on your computer, or are you trying to use your website's file manager application?

If you're uploading it to you're website, do you have teh Install.php file uploaded as well? If so put "http://www.you're_Domain.com/Forum/install.php" where You're_Domain is you're Url for teh website.

Hi thanks for replying

i'm using version SMF 1.1.rc2.

I dragged all of the unzipped smf files onto ftp surfer which then, i think, sends them off to my webhost.

When i then log onto ftp.streamline.net [nofollow] i can see that the smf files have been uploaded but when i double click on 'install.php' i just a text document of what looks like computer code.
