SMF Version: Version not known
Hi there

I was wondering if someone could help me.
I uploaded everything yesterday and everything seemed to be fine.  I also uploaded the theme 7dana and I was fiddling around with the code and trying to add a button... and I wasent getting far.  So, I decided to give up on that and tried to go back to the admin panel and the following error message come up:

''Template Parse Error!
It seems something has gone sour on the forum with the template system. This problem should only be temporary, so please come back later and try again. If you continue to see this message, please contact the administrator.''

It was suggested to me that I should use my FTP and just upload a fresh version and over write the one that is there, so Ive done that and infact I re uploaded the whole forum file.  So when I went to my forum i was taken back to the original installer pages where you create your account, however it wont let me create an account.  Whatever I enter as the account name and password I get told that the account was not created as the username/password already exist.

Any suggestions??

Kelly

PS - I should add that Im a complete novice and dont understand code!!   But I can copy and paste!!

Re-run the installer, but this time choose a different table prefix.  By default, SMF uses smf_ as the table prefix.  When you reinstalled, you kept smf_ as the table prefix, so that's why you are getting these messages.  For example, use smf2_ as the table prefix when you do the reinstall.  Everything should be ok after that.

As a side note, make sure you install themes that are compatible with your version of SMF.  1.0.7 cannot use themes for RC2, and RC2 can only use themes designed for RC2.

When you install a new theme, or modify an existing one, it pays to have two admin accounts. When you test the theme, using the second account, you can still access your forum with the first one and modify the theme settings for the second account. Or, delete the theme that's gone wrong.

If that makes sense...

It can also pay to have the second account accessing the forum from a totally seperate browser, especially if you have auto-login enabled.

If you remove the entire theme, via ftp, you should revert to the defaul theme.
