installation problem

SMF Version: SMF 1.0.7
Hello !
I have a problem when I install my forum. I fill the various settings in page one (with the ftp address and connection) and in page two (with the MySQL settings) but when I click on proceed, I go back to page one. I have tried several times and checked the passwords and usernames but it still does not work.
Could anyone tell me what to do please ?

Yes I have read this but I think I have every thing that is required.

What is strange is that I don't have any error message, it just goes back to the first page.

Double-check that the files actually got chmodded properly.

I'm sorry, what's "chmodded" ? how can I check ?

If you use Cpanel,on the line of the file there should be a number usually set for files - 644 & folders 755

For FTP,Just right click the file/folder and the panel below details tells you the current chmod setting

Chmodded - Means like a permission edit so 777 is near to full permissions which are:

-Read
-Write
-Exexcute

On windows based,its set differently from linux.
