stuck before i even started...

SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
chances are, this is not even an SMF issue, but hopefully someone here can shed some light on it for me.

status:  complete newbie with PHP, complete newbie with MySQL.

i've got an FC5 box that i'm trying to install SMF on.  when i hit www.myhost.com/smf/install.php, i get the following error message:

The installer was unable to detect MySQL support in PHP. Please ask your host to ensure that PHP was compiled with MySQL, or that the proper extension is being loaded.

Click here to try this step again.


i have the following packages installed (some were put on at box-creation, others i just nabbed last nite, after looking at SMF's requirements):

(note that i did not build any of these myself from source.)

i'm running apache v2.2.0.  i see from /server-info that i do not have mod_auth_mysql installed, however i do have mod_php5.  i would think that's not the issue, though, since it's PHP that is trying to access MySQL, not the webserver itself.

anyone have any ideas?

awesome... i looked around here for a while yesterday, and couldn't come up with anything that seemed applicable.  i'll give it a try later on today, and hopefully that'll clear things up for me.
