Hi guys,

I'm new at smf and I wonder if anyone here can help me, I've just recently move to a new server for my smf forum. I have it install in a fresh copy, however i would like to just transfer my members over only and not the whole structure. Which files do i need to upload to my new server. Thank you

Do you have phpmyadmin? And access to the old data? If so, you can go on to phpmyadmin, export the file yourdbprefix_members table (select to zip it) and import that file to your new database. Before importing the table, delete the original members table in your new database. The only warning is, this will delete any members that you have registered on your new forum.

If you don't have phpmyadmin, but do have your old forum still installed or a database backup of the forum, I can provide alternative instructions.

Hi,

Am in a similar situation, in that the server I was hosting on had to be reinstalled completely. before this happened I was able to take a complete backup of everything, including SMF.

So not only do I have the entire sql db but I also have all the files that were located in my case in /talk (this being SMF).

Is there an easy way of returning back to where I was, ie. Do I need to do a fresh install of SMF and then copy across the db and certain files, or is there a better way of doing this?

Thanks,

If you have a complete backup, files and database, just put the files where they need to go and restore the database. Make sure the db connection settings are still correct in Settings.php and you should do just fine.
