I have a question.I have tried to install and update my SMF but when it's downloaded, the files can't be used. Could you help me with my problem please? I don't know what to do anymore.

Files can't be used? When you first download them, they are zipped up in .zip files. They need to be unzipped before you can used them. If you have Windows XP, you can unzip them just by clicking on the file, and extracting them. Otherwise, you'll need to download a program like WinZip, or similar.

when I download the zipfile, the computer automatically unzips them.that's where I see they don't work

How do they not work? Once the download archive is unzipped you have to upload the files with an FTP program.

There are many FTP programs available.

are the ones that come to mind.

What's the problem, were you able to upload all the smf files to your website? Or are you having trouble connecting to your site through the FTP program or what? And just to be clear, are you running the FTP program? If you want to run SMF on your own local computer, the SMF files will only be treated correctly if you have mysql, php, and a apache server installed on your computer.

I'm trying to download the smf files in FTP but every time the permission is denied. I also wanted to ask where I have to do this: "Initiate an FTP connection to the server and create a directory on the server."
