Maybe I am really missing something but I see in the theme template the statement below. But then where does it actually show up. I have enabled RSS feeds but I don't see where they would actually be listed.

// If RSS feeds are enabled, advertise the presence of one.
    if (!empty($modSettings['xmlnews_enable']))
        echo '
    <link rel="alternate" type="application/rss+xml" title="', $context['forum_name'], ' - RSS" href="', $scripturl, '?type=rss;action=.xml" />';

It's in the html source. There isn't anything visual.

OK Thanks..

So then how would I do something like adding a feed icon next to the board name of each board that is linked to the RSS feed-

Something like...

Hi Patrick,
I've already done something similar to what you ask.
I added a visual note when you enter to a board that an RSS feed is available.

in MessageIndex.template.php replace

<td align="', !$context['right_to_left'] ? 'right' : 'left', '" nowrap="nowrap" style="font-size: normaltext;" id="botones">', theme_show_buttons(), ' </td>

<td align="', !$context['right_to_left'] ? 'right' : 'left', '" nowrap="nowrap" style="font-size: normaltext;" id="botones">', theme_show_buttons(), ' <a title="The latest messages on the forum ' . $context['page_title'] . ' for your site or your desktop (RSS FEED)" href="', $scripturl, '?type=rss;action=.xml;sa=recent;board=', $context['current_board'], '" /><img src="/rss_delforo.png" valign="middle" hspace="5"  border="0" alt="RSS FEED of the forum ' . $context['page_title'] . '" /></td>

A question, why there's not a TOPIC rss feed? I put  ?type=rss;action=.xml after my topic and I just get the RSS feed for the forum the topic is in.

Best,
Carla

[UPDATED TO USE FEED ICONS] - http://www.feedicons.com/

Thanks Carla,

After a little hunting I use your example and added the XML button the boards index page.

For those following along at home, here's how you go from...

1 - Back it up!

2 - Edit  /SMFDIR/Themes/YOURTHEME/BoardIndex.template.php

3 - Look for something like this (may vary depending on the theme)

Lainaa
<b><a href="', $board['href'], '" name="b', $board['id'], '">', $board['name'], '</a></b><br />
, $board['description'];

4 - Change it to this

Lainaa
<b><a href="', $board['href'], '" name="b', $board['id'], '">', $board['name'], '</a></b>
<a title="Subscribe to feed of latest topics for this forum" href="', $scripturl, '?type=rss;action=.xml;sa=recent;board=', $board['id'], '" /><img src="/images/feed-icon-12x12.gif" valign="bottom" border="0" alt="RSS FEED' . $context['page_title'] . '" /></a><br />
, $board['description'];

I thought I had a syntax error but I found it.  The problem was operator headspace.  Thanks!

Tim

For those of you who wish to use something else then the XML button, look into feed icons

Thanks for the link, Tim.  Nice set of icons and I'm glad they are trying to standardize it.

Patrick Egan

Thanks Tim. The feed icons are SOOOO Much nicer looking and it would be nice to get a standard in place
