SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
So... Everything looks peachy, but using either php send or smtp, I get no errors when registering members or mailing members - and no errors either. I'm stumped. ???

Did you check with your host that you can indeed send mail from your hosting account? Sometimes for example hosts disable SMTP.

Any errors in your forum error log?

Thanks,

My cpanel shows the path to sendmail, so it's a pretty fair assumption that it's working. There are errors:

Could not connect to SMTP host: 111 : Connection refused

2: fsockopen(): unable to connect to localhost:25
File: /home/law/public_html/forums/Sources/Subs-Post.php
Line: 905

I'm guessing that one of these is my php try and one is my smtp try...

Edit:

I just installed YaBB and the default install on that script is sending emails just fine, so that tells me we're definitely OK with our server. I'm stumped. ::)

I would still confirm with your host that you have access to SMTP. Basically those error messages are telling you it cannot connect to port 25 for sending your mail.

Also obviously double check that you have entered the correct username and password. Obvious I know but we have all used a capital letter when we didn't need to or just simply spelled a word incorrectly.

Oh, I'm guilty of far stupider errors than that.  Thanks, I'll check again.

Oy. Although I can't get hold of my host, some of the features in YaBB are emailing me - this leads me to believe that some sort of mail functionality is present on my box. Any other thoughts? i'm dyin' here!

In the admin area, go to "server settings" then to the "Feature Configuration" section (menu across the top of the settings boxes). Check that for "Mail type" you have it set to PHP default. You likely have it set to SMTP. If you do have it set to PHP default, check your mail settings in YaBB and set them identical for SMF.

Thanks. I've done all that. No luck.

Might be wise to talk to your hosting provider then. They might be able to help out.
