Need help on tweaking server

SMF Version: SMF 1.1 RC2
Hello all!

We've been running on a dedicated server for nearly 2 months now, and all is well. Lots gained over a so-called web-hotel!  8)

We didn't change because of poor perfomance on their part (not often anyway), but service was lacking. And since we didn't want to experience that again, so we choose to invest. Our forum-size isn't in need of a dedicated server, but I really love having full control!

The server has been runnig ok, but I still see some things going "wrong", mostly MySQL-related.

On our server we have 2 websites running, both utilizing SMF for forum-software.

Specs:

CPU: Intel P4 3.0Ghz 2MB L2
Mem: 2GB
HDD: 80GB Sata Raid1 (mirror)

PHP: 4.3.10-16
MySQL: 4.0.24

Forum-URL: http://forum.db-sat.eu/index.php
MySQL status: http://forum.db-sat.eu/Sources/status.php

Before you all start slashing over the versions ;), how much work is it to upgrade to PHP5 and MySQL5? Got any good URL's?

Maybe some of you can give me some directions about how to get rid of these "mishaps"?

TIA!!

Anakin

Upgrading is really easy as long as your mods are php5 compatible.

The php5 upgrade guide goes through anything that has changed since php4 and the mysql site also has a very easy guide.

Even if you decide not to upgrade you should still update php4 to the latest version by running these commands at the terminal:

Code: [Select]
apt-get update
apt-get upgrade

Any reasons why not?

I have been running php5 since it came out and experienced no errors.

Mysql 5 is another story though...
