Hello,

I'm a totally new user of smf. If my question is stupid, which might be, then errr... i hope you will enjoy your laugh :)

Till now i'm a happy user :) but i'm just missing something. I would like the private messages to be kept in outboxes by default, if possible for all my users, or if not, at least for me, but i dont see anywhere an option i could activate to get this result.

Can anybody help ?

Thank you :)

kat

'allo, tomestat!

Welcome to the lunatic asylum that is SMF!

I believe that that setting was set as non-default, for a reason.

If it was set as default, your forum would take-up terrabytes of space, pretty quickly, coz people NEVER remember to clear-out their messages.

I had something like 175 PAGES of them, 'til I cleared them out, the other day...

Admin > Themes and Layouts > Member options (or member settings, can't remember the 1.1 version) > change the options on all the themes for guests and new members. The members one sets all members without changes (you can also reset everyones), and the guest one sets it for new members and of course, guests.

Also, I recommend making moderation buttons checkboxes and showing the newest PM at the top....DON'T do that with posts though cause it will confuse everyone.

I have the option like that on my forum too, but unlike Kat I limit personal messages and run queries to delete newsletters.

* Jade Elizabeth smacks Kat for not answering the question. BAD boy, to your room!! :P

I did it deliberately, coz I wanted to see you posting, again...

Oh... pssst...

No such thing as "Member options" or "Member settings" in v1.1.11... ;)

Thank you for welcoming me, for your code and for your answers.

I do understand that this option is set to off by default because most forums, as yours seemingly, are open forums. But it is not the case of mine, which will host a community of a handful of users, maybe 20 or 30, and no guest access will be allowed at all.  And i believe that the coders had a reason to offer the "restrictive" pre-defined permission profile. Privacy is a concern for us, so one day you get your account if you have to, that's all. So i dont think it will make Tb's :) Therefore i cannot totally hide my smile as Jade Elizabeth smacks.you  ;D

And i had lots of hope in her soluce :

but k@t is right, i cannot find those options. So another question comes to me : should i upgrade to 2.x ? How much beta is beta for Simple Machines ?

Thank you :)

EDIT

I said to  myself that RC3 should be mature enough for my small needs and i upgraded (without any problem - what a simplicity to upgrade and what an elegance once connected :D). So my question is still valid, but for 2.0RC3.

Final edit

I found the answer to my question : in 2.0RC3 it was under configuration - themes and layout - member options

Thanks !  :)
