Additional "Karma" Stats?

I'd like to be able to incorporate a second (or even third) karma-like stat to my forum.  The forum is used primarily for a PbP RPG, and having the ability for users to track frequently changing stats from the 'avatar box' would be a huge boon.  I'm fairly confident I can handle setting the permissions so that only a member (and moderators) can change their own stats, but the task of replicating the karma system is beyond me.

Would it be enough for me to make copies of the karma system's files wherein "karma" is replaced by some other term, say, "Will" or "Health" or some such?  If so, then which files would need to be changed and is there an "easy" (or at least efficient" way to make the changes?

Any help that can be offered will be greatly appreciated.  If I haven't explained the situation clearly enough, please let me know so that I can take another crack at it.

p.s. I'm also using TP 0.8.6, so if you can think of a javascript/php snippet that might do the same thing and could be incorporated into TP, please let me know.  I can't even begin to think of where to start looking—especially since any such snippet would have to make calls to database (or cookies, I suppose) in order to keep a record of the stat.  Thanks, again.
