I've installed atleast 7 different versions of a 1.1 RC3 forum and they all come up the same... so what the hell could be causing this... I'n no scripting knowledge so I wouldnt know whre to start but I even thought it may have been the software I DL so I tried to DL it again same thing so its either software or server side I dont know but help is appreciated... my site is a test forum im just playing with till the 1.1 final version comes out so registration is disable but I will enable it so you guys can check it out even though your just gonna se whats in the pic... also when I click listen to letters it generates a server side (host) error... which you can se below... anyway the link to my site so you guys can go check it out is as follows but any help is appreciated , Thx...

http://uotc.freeyellow.com/SMF_Test_Forums/index.php

This is the server side (host) error that generates when you try to listen to the letters... keep in mind the error is the same on every installation I've tried...

PHP Fatal error:  Allowed memory size of 12582912 bytes exhausted (tried to allocate 50295 bytes) in /hermes/web08/b642/fy.uotc/SMF_Test_Forums/Sources/Subs-Sound.php on line 80

Edit : Just noticed theres a forum side error which I believe is part of whats wrong...

Edit 2 : Forgot to mention it's not the theme bec it's the same even on the SMF default theme...

It looks like you might need to raise the PHP memory limit. Are any of your working SMF boards on the same server?

I dont really have any boards except for test boards right now... and I dleeted all but the one im trying to "fix" and im not gonna pretend to understand what u said but how would raising a memory limit fix the picture for not showing up ? and how do you even raise said limit.

Edit : I only have the one server / MySQL database which is hosted by http://www.freeyellow.com

Well, you can raise the limit, but only if PHP is set up as a module (not CGI).

If it is a module, you can make a .htaccess file in the SMF root directory with the folowing line in it:

php_value memory_limit 16M

You might also want to see if PHP has gd support. You can check this and how PHP is being run as by making a phpinfo file (What is phpinfo.php?).

I already have one of those GD check things from a mod I instaled... it has GD support which you can see by clicking this

Also made the phpinfo.php thing which can be found by clicking this

As for checking to see if PHP is set up as a module and not CGI as you said I dont / wouldnt even know where to start to even check that... i literally dont know much at all about this sort of stuff , lol... so any help you can provide to get this fixed is greatly appreciated ;-)

From the phpinfo you posted:

Server API CGI

The .htaccess change won't work.

I can't think of any reason though why the process should be taking up so much memory. I have a test board that can display the image and generate the sound in the default 8 meg.

Ok but maybe its not taking up so much memory maybe something else is wrong... isnt that possible... anyway... what can I do to fix this with the provided info (phpinfo) you can see by clicking the lick...

Edit : If you wana sneak a peak at the database and the forum I have a secondary login made for both...

Edit 2 : On a site note I thought I'd mention that I had the idea that if I installed the mod (advanced visiual verification) I figured it would corrent the problem and it didnt same thing no matter what...

If the included one won't work at all, a mod won't help.

I see you are using PowWeb (or at least the same system they are currently on). You can set up a custom php.ini with your own settings (like increased memory limit). The option is in Ops in the advanced scripting area. If you still have memory issues after raising to 16M, then something is going wrong and we'll need to try some other stuff.

I wouldnt even know eher to start let alone how to do this... would you please be wiling to maybe do it for me ? Atleast this way it would be out of the way so as you said if it dont work then something def going wrong and we can try other stuff... hell I'll even do a fresh instal of the RC3 software so theres two forums to play with...

Try adding this to the beginning of index.php (right after the opening PHP tag):

ini_set('memory_limit', '16M');

That will still work even with PHP running in CGI mode (unless your host has disabled the ini_set function).

MoreBloodWine

I wana do this right and I dont even know what the opening tag would be... so heres everything from my index.php file... sorry if this makes the post a bit long... if I knew how to make it scroll so its no so big I would...<?php

/* This, as you have probably guessed, is the crux on which SMF functions.
Everything should start here, so all the setup and security is done
properly.  The most interesting part of this file is the action array in
the smf_main() function.  It is formatted as so:

'action-in-url' => array('Source-File.php', 'FunctionToCall'),

Then, you can access the FunctionToCall() function from Source-File.php
with the URL index.php?action=action-in-url.  Relatively simple, no?
