I currently have two users experiencing this problem: Occasionally when they try to post they get bounced back to the topic but their post does not appear.  Some of them have lost un-posted text.  One user says that sometimes he can open a new browser window and try again and then he can post just fine, other times he cannot.  One of the moderators has commented that it happens more with some threads, in that case he deleted the thread and started a new one as a work around.

Here is the error they get when they try to post:

Quote
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator, [email protected] and inform them of the time the error occurred, and anything you might have done that may have caused the error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 404 Not Found error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

I could find no reference to any similar event in the error log.

2.    PHP 4.4.0 Compatibility Update    1.0

4.    SMF 1.0.6 Update    1.0
5.    SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update    1.0
6.    SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update    1.0
7.    SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update    1.0
8.    SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update    1.0
9.    SMF 1.0.7 / 1.1 RC2 Update    1.0

Thanks for your help!

Have you tried to contact your host to see if they are having problems?

jcmadden

Not yet, I hadn't determined if it was random or at the same time for both users.

Does this sound like something that would be caused by the host and not by SMF?

jerm

jcmadden

Thank you.

I realize it could be caused by multiple things but what are some good starting points?

Also my host is "p4host".

jerm

Contact your host and tell them that you are getting 404 Not Found error from time to time.

jcmadden

Thank you again.  You really are my hero.  :P
