Are mods even being made for SMF??

I was looking through the feature requests forum...  there are a lot of really good ideas, some of which people have "hinted" at making.  For example, membermap and WYSIWYG message posting with JS.  Both really good ideas, but no mods?  In fact, I read through dozens of messages, looked through all of the forums, and after browsing for hmm 2 hours now, not one single mod was found.

I know this thing is beta, but unless the beta updates weekly and code modifications aren't a good idea, shouldn't there be a place to put completed mods??

I guess the mod writers are holding on for final release.

I get the feeling that when it does go final there will be a stream of previous YSE mods ported over (hopefully)  ;D

Ummm... the membermap mod is already made - and if you checked my package server you would have noticed I have about 10 MOD's for SMF already. However - I'd recommend holding off installing them until the RC - or at least until you've read the thread in the coding board about permission settings...

As Fizzy said, this is still a beta and code changes a LOT - which makes writing mods hard as you have to update them every month. Once RC 1.0 comes out I expect the amount of MODs to rise considerably.

yup... that's why I've been holding back... the code is changing all the time in any area that one may not have considered...

still, I worked on some things... there's 2 or 3 I have ready to update as soon as RC1 is released, plus the new ones I'll write too

I think RC2 become the 'almost final', so when it comes available I write some mods.

Yeah, it probably is a good idea for modders to wait before releasing mods. I do remember there were a lot of mods that were released for Pre Finals on IPB, and some of them required changing to work on the Final while probably most of them didn't. If a modder doesn't mind adding a few tweaks to the code every so often, then it's no problem to release mods before the final though. I think modders should always specify exactly what board the mod was used for, saying RC1, RC2, etc and not guaranteeing that it will work for the other versions.

Yeap, I agree.

But as I see how the modmakers and theme designers where 'honnered' for their work that make IPB ones great, it's no wonder there not upgrading anymore and many did leave. They did the same to some of us with Ikonboard after he leaves YaBB (same writer) and twice is just to much.
I can understand that, now the times got harder to earn a living, there's more commercial involvement, but turning you're back on the folks that gave him (the writer) so much is realy bad and will couse a backfire in trust, not only towards IPB, but also in the volunteer work at other, still free, scripts.
I see SMF is doing a great job in gaining trust, building community, so I'm sure we got some good modwriters in here that will go in dept to write good mods and keep them stable and working and we all could say after a while: 'My board of choice? SMF!'.
