Removal of version information?

At the foot of every page we have "Powered by SMF 1.1.2 | SMF © 2006-2007, Simple Machines LLC". If a new version is released to plug a security hole, and until the admin is able to apply the update, having the version information displayed advertises that the forums have not yet been updated.

Is it permitted under the license to remove the version information so that it just says "Powered by SMF | SMF © 2006-2007, Simple Machines LLC"? (obviously the part that says "SMF © 2006-2007, Simple Machines LLC" cannot be touched in any way).

No this is not permitted in anyway. If an update comes out to fix a security hole you are urged to update your forum as soon as possible.

You're allowed to removed the version number. Change it in index.php
"Never imagine yourself not to be otherwise than what it might appear to others that what you were or might have been was not otherwise than what you had been would have appeared to them to be otherwise."
