Session verification failed

I can't figure this out for the life of me.  >:(

Just yesterday, out of the blue, I started getting this error:

An Error Has Occurred!
Session verification failed. Please try logging out and back in again, and then try again.

I can browse the forum just fine but when I try to log into the Admin screen (after I enter my password) this error pops up. I also get it when I try to Logout.

When I try to post a message I get this error:

The following error or errors occurred while posting this message:
Your session timed out while posting. Please try to re-submit your message.

I have tried backing up my database to before this started and that doesn't fix it. I have also tried deleting my cookie for this forum and that didn't work. I even reinstalled the latest upgrade (RC1) and that didn't work.

Is there any files I could upload to get me into my admin screen to try and fix things from there? Like a admin.php file or something? Any ideas would be appreciated.

1st one, try database driven sessions. 2nd, is your post.template.php up to date?

Please explain how to try "database driven sessions".

I can't even switch themes without the sessions error.

I'll try and upload the RC1 default post.template.php and see if that corrects it now.

EDIT: The post.template.php didn't fix it.

I swear to gawd I went through every thread that had anything to do with this error and none of them helped. I always search diligently before I post. Most of the people who have had this error could logout or wait for awhile then get to their Admin area. I can't.

If you have database access (ie through phpMyAdmin or something) you can go into your database, to the table smf_settings, click on the SQL tab and run this query in it:UPDATE `smf_settings` SET `value` = '1' WHERE `variable` = 'databaseSession_enable';

Sweet! That got me into my Admin area. What did it do? Do I need to undo anything now, etc.?

Metho

Well, if everything is working, then having the database sessions should keep everything all good.

*cries*

i know i posted this same problem somewhere else, but i just thought i'd reply here to show that i have read this too....

i tried doing all of the above and it didn't work so i ended up having to delete my cookies again to get into admin...

thing is i am using database sessions so i don't know why i'm having this problem... also now this is happening to alot of my members

Well, in Unrelenting's case, it probably meant there was something wrong with the /tmp directory.

LostProphecy... I'm not sure what might be going on for you.  Have you tried turning database driven sessions off?

-[Unknown]

LostProphecy

no, i'll try that and let you know what happens

LostProphecy

ok... i'm back with my report ;)

after many attempts at trying to fix things myself and turning things on and off i'm still getting this porblem

only now some of my members are telling me that it's been happening to almost everyone ever since the upgrade

they seem to have found a weird way around it... go post in the games board and then it works *shrugs*

it's stopping admins from using "admin centre" and modifying post and it seems to be stopping my members from posting altogether :(

just a question... could it possibly be anything to do with either my webhost or the fact that i and i'm sure most others are using the XP SP2 or whatever that new patch was called??

Jessi I registered yesterday in your forum as user "andrea". Could you give me temporary admin access such that I could have a look at the issue?

XP SP2 shouldn't cause it, but you could try a different browser to see if this is what's wrong.

I sent several pm's to myself and to a guy who welcomed me in the lostprophecy.com failures. Using Firefox - I did not experience any session verification problems.

But... trying a different browser could at least help narrow down the problem.
