Personal Messages "repaired" away

SMF 1.1 RC1
Apache version  1.3.37 (Unix)
PHP version     4.4.2
MySQL version     4.1.21-standard

I recently reverted my database back to a backup, and found that no one could view their personal messages anymore. The correct number would show, and the correct number of pages would show.... But the actual messages themselves were not to be found anywhere. I went & looked in the database, and there they all were. But, I tell you, but, when I then ran the "find and fix errors" utility of SMF, it erased the largest part of the smf_pm_recipients table. I had 300 messages, I now have 6.

Now... A small step forward, with being able to view the messages, finally... But a huge leap backwards, as there is now utter chaos. :(

I made a backup just before doing this, which I am about to revert to now. But how can I enable people to see their PMs again?

EDIT:

This is what I get.

Hey, admin, you have 295 messages, 0 are new.

Quote
Date    Subject    From
Pages: 1 ... 18 19 [20]

...And that's the end of the page. The PMs are there, apparently, but I don't get to read them. They can be read by activating email notification, however. The message in the PM will be included in the email, if I've understood the reporting member correctly.

Any reason why you've not upgraded? That may actually fix the problem as I suspect that this is just a theme file gone haywire and, hopefully, not a database issue at all.

SMF vs. Godzilla? Who do you think will win?

I tried to upgrade, but that just wouldn't fly. Here is what happened.

zarth,
You should try to upgrade even if problems do continue.. Give it some time and try again. Sometimes it is just a bad day.

As for personal_message recipients SMF will remove them when it finds PM recipients without personal messages attached to it.
You can uplooad from your backup that table again and restore it then repair the table in phpmyadmin. But make sure the personal_messages table has data as well.

We're working on another attempt at upgrading. Thanks for the reply.
