Hello,

It took me a hour to get this done and allot of reading but i got it done none the less and everything is working fine. For those of you who are also having problems like i did or dint exactly know what needs to be done this little guide will help you overcome the PHP security issues.

As you all know by now major loop holes in PHP where found which will leave your customer/Clients forums vulnerable to hackers.

To correct this problem here are the steps  i have taken.

-Log into WHM as the Root user

-In the  top left click your Update Config and change the settings to MANUAL and go with the EDGE selection. Click Save at the bottom

(after you do this update you can change it back to whatever setting you prefer) [Update config]

-Scroll down until you get to the cpanel section and look for Upgrade cpanel/whm (click the link)

you will see a page come up specifying what type of upgrade you are doing and you should see EDGE mentioned in the message. if you see EDGE then click the update button and let cpanel/whm do its thing. when it is complete.......

-Next step is to rebuild Apache, on your left again look for the software section and click the upgrade Apache link. ensure you check whatever boxes you need to before you click the (start build link)

once you have completed the above steps the next step requires you to log in via SSH. i suggest you use a program called PUTTY

http://the.earth.li/~sgtatham/putty/latest/x86/putty.exe

-log in as the root user

once you log in your going to type the following command

cd /

this will take you to the main portion of your hard drive and out of the /root/ folder

the next command you type will be

cd scripts

this will take you into the scripts directory

the next command you will type is

./installzendopt

the next thing you will see is the actual install for ZEND 2.5.7 follow the on screen directions and when prompted input your set up info into the ZEND 2.5.7 install prompts.

I took the defaults for each prompt and had no trouble but double check as this could get you into trouble if you specify a wrong path.

Happy holidays everyone and if you have questions or need clarification you can contact me via the following

Question... why do you need to install EDGE instead of stable/current or whatever to update PHP?

Jay?

php 4.3.10 has not been added to the Stable, Release or Current tree's yet - I'm sure they will release it later today or sometime tomarrow.   It is current in whm 9.9.9 build 33 of the Edge tree...

Now, I understand that you MAY upgrade PHP outside of the whm/cpanel system - however this MAY break some functions within whm/cpanel and you system may not work correctly.  Just my observation.

Before you do update you may wanna double check and make sure your clients or customers are not running any software that cant handle PHP 4.3.10

Well...
If I hit UPDATE APACHE and then load previous settings,
and then I want it to build, it doesnt obtain a file list from cpanels server, but it checks for the latest files with PHP.net (thought that includes the ZEND optimizer ;)) and apache...
It doesnt get its files from a cpanel server,
so I dont see why I should upgrade to EDGE.

Or am I forgetting something...? :P

You don't need to be running edge, all upgrading to edge would have done is downloaded the latest set of /scripts/*, which could have been done by running /scripts/updatenow
