We moved servers last night and got this error so I put the forum into maintenance mode until we got it worked out.

So, what is it?

Thanks.  It wasn't me who bumped it.

I'd ask skittles exactly what we did, but I know we did run the repair settings thing.

The database has been imported fine, and we've moved several times before; we just don't know what's wrong now.

Do you mind to post the link of your fourm?
It helps to know the actual environment of your forum

It's in maintenance mode right now, so you're only going to get the screen with the message asking you to login.

Yes, I did so. All the information is correct. Every other part of the site works but the actual threads being displayed doesn't.

so there is no any error? only problem is forum doesn't display the threads and topic.
Lets try checking all file inside the sources and themes. some might be missing or have 0 byet when you  moved those file from one machine to other

I've imported my copy of the database into a MAMP installation on my Harddrive and the posts loaded fine.  I didn't even use the forum directory from it, I just used a fresh install with the old database and the posts show up.

I'm attempting to upload my copy of the database to the server right now.  The back ups from the other 2 didn't work, but if mine worked on the server I use for testing I'm hoping it can work on the actual server.

Wow thats a weird error it seems it may not be reading the messages table from your database.

Any errors in your error logs?
Have you tried to see if you get this on the default SMF install theme?

/ Possible Solutions /

1) Try reimporting smf_messages from a backup.

2) Try Going to
Admin -> Forum Maintenance and run the following:

Optimize all tables to improve performance.
Find and repair any errors.

oh wait, I forgot to say that the posts do show if you go into the user's post history.

They just don't show on threads.

1)I'll try reimporting the whole thing since I don't know if there are any other errors we haven't noticed yet, and it would be a bit nasty to notice them in a few days.
2)It told me no errors were found. :'(

As JMV said, the messages display in a person's post tracker.

Unfortunately the old server seems to be messed up.  The URL should be http://valentrinne.com/boyah but the domain seems to be offline.

I guess that would be worth trying,  we do have a bunch of members trying to log in because they are too impatient to wait for us to fix it so I have a feeling they are going to rush in and try to post when we open it.

JMV290

Okay, I just tested it; guests and regular members have the same problem.

sherpa サイバー侍

why dont you make a test folder and copy your forum inside it and copy of your receent database too.
unless we dont know environment of your forum we cant say any thing. (And I have no right to ask you to provide me your admin info becouse I am just a ordinary memberof like you trying to help community.)
or
you may request to SMF support guru
they will need your ftp information, forum information everything including admin info of forum.

JMV290

We just solved it.

It's a bit difficult to explain but it was trying to connect to a non existent database to load custom rank images
