Problem with installing Custom Profile Field Mod

I have newest version of SMF running. UTF8, several language packages, language drop, flags.

Since SMF can't change write permissions on my server, I look in .xml for the files to give write permissions and change it via ftp FileZilla by hand. Afterwards I can usually install all my mods.

But not the Custom Profile Field Mod. I made all required files that I could find in .xml writable, still SMF says that some are not. How can this be? Is it possible the mod doesn't like my language packages? Or do I miss something?

Thanks for any advice  :)

first of all, "newest" is not actually a version. Please state version NUMBER next time.

For the moment, I will assume that you mean v2.0b3p

Why would you install the CPF mod?   2.0 has CPF built in by default.

If your using 2.0 then the Custom Profile Field Mod is not supported on it.

mostly because its built in and thus, deprecated.

are you using 1.1.4 or 2.0?

Now that's cute. How blind can I be? I was sure I'm using SMF 2.0, but actually it's 1.1.4. Probably because I wanted to use 2.0 until I've read that it's strongly recommended not to use it officially because of bugs and issues.

So, please forget my previous questions. My new one is: what's your impression regarding the reliabilty of SMF 2.0? Should I better run with that? Or better wait? Around when do you think a stable version will be out?

metallica48423

Probably not for awhile will a stable version of 2.0 be out.  you may be best to test out 2.0 on a test install and see if it is stable enough for your needs.

if need be i can move this to 1.x support for you?

Of course, yes. Move it to where it should belong. Sorry that I didn't check again what version I use.

I will now install 2.0 and try it out. Only problem will be that there are no language packs out yet, and my site is multilingual.

But anyway, thanks for your help! It's great to see that there's a lot of support for SMF. Thumbs up!
