okay.  You're going to want to do this

1.) download the smf *upgrade* package from the downloads page.
2.) extract it onto your computer
3.) Delete upgrade.php
4.) Download a copy of your Settings.php from your forum.
5.) Take the archive you had and upload it in its entirety over your current install.

That will put you at a default install of SMF, then reinstall your mods

1.) download the smf *upgrade* package from the downloads page.
** http://download.simplemachines.org/ is it the large upgrade i want?
2.) extract it onto your computer
3.) Delete upgrade.php **where am i deleting this file from? the one i have just extracted?
4.) Download a copy of your Settings.php from your forum.
5.) Take the archive you had and upload it in its entirety over your current install. **sorry what archive are you talking about?

im sorry for all the questions I am totally new to all of this and am only just learning how to do everything...

That will put you at a default install of SMF, then reinstall your mods **will this make me lose everything i currently have in my mods (like gallery, links etc)

metallica48423

Yes.  See where it says large upgrade?

It will uninstall them from the code, but the database information would be preserved.

Otherwise you are going to need to go through all of your mods and manually reinstall all the language entries for each.

thank you.

i take it once i have extracted the files i am deleting upgrade.php from the extracted files?
and then putting my current Settings.php into the extracted files?

what exactly do you mean by Take the archive you had and upload it in its entirety over your current install. ??

do i then upload the folder using ftp into my root directory??

any chance of getting someone to do this for me? what costs would be involved?

cheers!

metallica48423

you just upload what you have into whats already there.  A proper ftp client will automatically overwrite the files -- Settings.php doesn't come with the upgrade package, the reason i had you take a copy of it is just in case.  just upload all that over whats there

ok some of my mods that i could not uninstall (like tp and filemanager etc... no longer have the option to be uninstalled) but i now have this error down the bottom of my site

Fatal error: Call to undefined function tportal_version() in /home/buctai8/public_html/Sources/Load.php(1726) : eval()'d code on line 329

ive lost tp does that mean ive also lost my articles???

whats next? next step to reinstall my mods?

thank you again!!

metallica48423

yes, next step is to reinstall your mods. That error shouldn't happen -- make sure you overwrote everything

Do all of them have the option to install them?  if not -- try adding ;version_emulate=1.1.4 to the URL that shows up in your browser when you click "Packages"

just one thing thought its showing as version 1.15 at the bottom but im still getting the message "A few security vulnerabilities have been identified in SMF 1.1.4 as well as a few small bugs. You can install this patch (click here to install) to update your version of SMF to 1.1.5." do i still need to install the "SMF 1.0.13 / 1.1.5 / 2.0 b3.1 Update" package?

i also had flashchat installed... do i need to reinstall that from scratch?

metallica48423

can you do the 'detailed version check' from your main admin page (should be over on the right)

its showing

Forum version: SMF 1.1.5
Current SMF version: SMF 1.1.5

so suppose just ignore that message...

metallica48423

hm... what about all the file detail in the detailed version check though -- each file has the version string in it -- it'll let you check that any file was up to date

everything is up to date except for my language files which are still sitting on 1.1

metallica48423

Bec, is everything working properly besides the update notice?

I am actually getting it as well.  i'll look into it
