Coding problems with site to forum

We been trying to add the sites header with buttons to the forum, to make it look intergrated. My bud finally finished doing it, but we ran into the same problem as last time. Whenever we take action , such as post or reply, the page redirects to the header, instead of the forum. Like basically all you see on the website is a header.

Edit your index.template.php file, not index.php. Add your buttons right after the <body> tag.

I know that, but the guy who did this for me did not...

You will always have problems if you continue using it like this. You cannot do it with using index.php. Because the things you add there will appear before everything means they will not be inside <html> or <body> tags. See the source code of the page you linked. There are style link, div tags and buttons before the <html> tag.

I've been working on the same thing.  I've successfully done so for 1.1.x, but we upgraded to 2.x and nothing applies the same.  Is there an updated tutorial for integrating with 2.x?  I need to apply mods that require and updated theme.

I guess my main issue is the new way that layers are created. Any link about how to create above and below layers in 2.x?

In fact, I followed this thread to add the header.php file, I did not in fact create 'main_above':

However, this thread seems out of date for version 2.x.  Unable to add a header to it successfully.

Not sure why I was having trouble, but got it sorted out using the method at:

Works great for fully integrating the forum into your website.  Pretty sure it was because I was using Firefox at home without the web developer tools, which disable cached settings like I have on my other computer
