Thanks to a very active community, Simple Machines Forum is currently available in over 40 languages. Even though we're proud of that fact, we continue to search for ways to improve the quality of our international support and to make new languages available, so that more people can benefit from the SMF software.

In order to provide higher quality language files, we've created an online tool allowing multiple users to work on the same language at the same time. This will make life a lot easier for translators and speeds up the time it takes for a translation to be released as a language package.

The tool allows us to take a different approach when it comes to translating the software. We used to require that translators would spent a lot of time translating the full language package. Now that the tool is in use, we can invite anyone who's interested in helping out, so that more people can make the job of translating a language lighter.

So, we're looking for new (and current) translators. A requirement to join the team of translators would be to have good skills in both English and the language you're translating to and that you can spend a significant amount of time on translating.

If you're interested in helping out with one of the languages currently available or a language not yet available, send a mail to languages@simplemachines.org. Please add the language you wish to help with and in what way you wish to contribute.

Luckily the languages@simplemachines.org address will be forwarded to all the people that are involved in getting the translation stuff going, including yours and mine, so there shouldn't be a problem in getting this thing started.

This is one of the major features of SMF itself-- the international community connection. It proves that even forum software can break the language barrier.

I want to translate from English (2.0 beta 3.1) to my native language Vietnamese but could not find the English language pack (2.0 beta 3.1) in the download section. There is only English 1.1.5 lang pack there.
Is there any official documents showing how to extract the English language pack from the latest SMF 2.0 beta 3.1 setup package?
And how to use the marcovanveelen to generate buttons?

I am not sure about the second question, but you can find the SMF english language files in the '/themes/default/languages/' folder. You will need to translate every file in the folder that follows the format '{filename}.english.php'.

There is already a translation for Vietnamese for SMF 1.1.5, so you may want to send an email to languages@simplemachines.org to get more information about translating.

Thanks for your translation offer. As LHVWB suggests the best way would probably be to e-mail the languages address. You can also find some more information in the stickies in Language Specific Support

Great idea. Teams of translators can do much better than individuals. There is probably many French translators around here but I sent and email in case more are needed.

Any translation pack on our site could be considered "official". We do need some volunteers to help update our existing translations to the new version of SMF, and are always interested in adding new translations.
