Updated yesterday - today lots of porn and tablet sales ???

As ADMIN I updated our forum yesterday (10 Nov 2008) as a pop-up came up when I entered my password, and today I switched on and there was 5 new members all trying to sell VIAGRA or Porn. I have not had this problem on the forum before. Have I inadvertently allowed computer generated sales via my membership? Has something changed that I need to stop ? Please help it's a family/hobby based website.....

I have the same problem. I manage two forums, one for a city community and one bussiness forum. Have only had but one spammer join either of these two and today both were bombarded.

It appears to be a wave of spam targeting all SMF boards, regardless of version.

So many people, I have not had this problem thankfully and i am using SMF 1.1.7, I upgraded the day it came out.

I would recommend this mod as maybe this is why i not had any but it seems to be doing the trick by the look at things.

I've had a sudden flood of attempted registrations over the last couple of days too. Lots of .ru email addresses and other dodginess. Fortunately the forum requires membership authorisation but it's a pain in the 'arris having to sort through all the registration attempts.

I'm not sure the reCapture mod will help but I'll give it a pop. Cheers genieuk.

Your welcome, what is good about re-captcha is the words asked are constantly changed, in SMF there are only a few words so mostly the same verification image is shown, with re-captcha this is not the case.
