I want to change the forum default colors in smf 2.04 beta, Can all of this be done from the style.css file, or is there roots embeded elsewere?

I've been doing some experimenting of my own, and have changed my default from blue to green.
See HERE for example.

What I did was downloaded the default theme to my computer, and used my photo program (Photofiltre Studio) to change the button and table background colors.

Then I edited the CSS, and re-uploaded the whole theme pack.

Depending on your photo editor, this can be easy or hard.

I downloaded the Hex Color Finder from NZ Soft to help me make sure that all my colors were the same tone, if you know what I mean. I didn't want my greens to be mismatched.

Hope this helps.

No it can't all be done through the style.css, unless you ditch all the images the theme relies on in standard form and just run a plain colour background in many classes. This tends to look a bit flat and stark, which is why images are generally used in moderation.

You will need to alter the images as well as the css hex colour codes for text, etc. Best way to do it is to make a duplicate copy of the default theme for testing purposes.

so besides the hex color in the css, I will have to change the images is all correct? I wont have to change any code elsewere to accomplish it?

SavingSaraSidle

You will have to edit the images, otherwise your forum text (overall text, links - css) and backgrounds (forum, quotes - css) will not match the pictures.

Yup, Im trying to figure out now what images to edit, there seems to be a bunch..

Gary

It'd most likley be limited to the background images such as titlebg, catbg, and the tab images. (maintab, admintab etc...)

Gary

Basically to keep the flow the same, I edit all the images to give them the same color hue... You can see here- http://forum.savingsarasidle.com

The only things I left their original color are like the big red exclamation points used to report a post to a moderator.

PhotoFiltre Studio is a cool tool to use (about $30 the last time I checked) because it allows you to change an images color to a different hue using a numerical degree value..

So say I want all of my images to be one uniform color, I pick a color on the hue selector (the green I use is always 112º) and apply it to every image.

Your forum looks good for the most part except that I noticed that your current location on the board isnt uniform with the rest of the board.

Sorry about my terminology for this, I don't know how to describe it.
Look at the image I have attached and you will see what I'm talking about. Your current position on the board is selected, the images don't match up.

Anyway, I hope you get what I'm saying, and I hope this helps.

Good Luck,
