[paid mod request] DVD Database

well, to start with, I realize that this won't be a small undertaking by any means, but I run a site for people that collect and trade DVD's in Steelbook packaging. What we'd like is to keep our own in-house database of all the releases from around the world without relying on other online catalogues that get info wrong, and reject submissions for one reason or another.

If there is any way to write a mod (that way logged in members can automatically use the database and add movies from it to their owned list) I'd love if someone could work on it. Here are the features I'd need (that I can think of right off the top of my head):

submission and searchable fields for the following:

UPC code
Country of Release
Region Code
Audio format
Audio Language
Subtitles selection
Aspect Ratio
Special features
number of discs
Movie Title
DVD/Blu-Ray/HD-DVD search/submission option
Director
Release company/studio
Genre selection
year of release
Movie Rating (for each country)
Video format

if an exclusive release, what store/web site
upload capability of front and back cover scans (or the ability to pull them from say DVDempire)
Information Fetching from various sources, such as all the Amazons, DVDempire, DeepDiscountdvd, IMDB, etc.

Possibly the ability to work seamlessly with tinyportal (not critical, but would be nice)

how I invision tis workin is a any member can submit a dvd title, then one of the staff memebers can approve/dis-approve it. Select Staff member can go in and edit any sumbission is needed. Users should be able to add any movie in the database to their "owned" list, which gets displayed on their profile maybe. It would need ot have an admin panel for setting options and such as well.

there are a couple of open source project that almost do this, but they fall very short of what I need, and since i can't code my way out fo a paper bag, I am stuck... for one, they are standalone sites with their own user signup, secondly they are missing some key features we'd need that seem to me to be pretty basic (I'm no coder like i said, so it may not be so basic)

the two best candidates I have seen yet are OpenDB and VCD-db, both can be found on sourceforge... unfortunately, the developement on these have come to a grinding halt, theres virtually no support documentation for them, and they don't integrate easily with SMF as far as I can tell. OpenDB works the best, but looks horrid.... VCD-db looks slick, but its configurability is lacking, and there are some other issues with its functionality that I am not happy with.

thats allI can think of at the moment, if anyone is ambitious enuff to take this one, and has any questions, let me know. I have an SMF Test install with all the mods and stuff my live site uses so I can help test the mod.

anyone interested in working on this, and wants more details, send me a PM... I am sure I could get up a collection from my site members to make some sort of donation to whomever can write the mod we need.

There was an information fetching mod from IMDB, however that had to be pulled from the mod site as IMDB do not allow info fetching/scrapers. So I can't see any mod on the mod site being allowed that does it for that site.

You'll need to check other sites terms and conditions to see whether they are content fetching/scraping.

thats cool then, I can forego the scraping.... I tested a standalone dvd database site package (open source on sourceforge, OpenDB) that does fetching, didn't know that it wasn't allowed.... so, with the exception of the fetching.... if someone wants to give this a crack. Our members can enter the details of the DVD manually. Def don't want a mod to break any rules here

on another note, I have a form I use as a TP article for posting new steelbook releases to certain forum sections... maybe this could be used to make a mod that enters the info into a searchable database, with all the other features I am looking for? If its ok, and anyone wants to see it, I'll post the code for the form I have set up.
