Switch to threaded or mixed view
« on: August 04, 2003, 03:00:30 PM »
Ok, here's another weird request.

You can view it a lovely little forum script which has the feature:

http://alex.ilosuna.org/forum/board.php

(click on "Thread-Ansicht" or "Mix-Ansicht" to switch the view)

ETA: I'm not related to the programmer, I just ran across his board on my search for the right forum.

vb has the feature,

personally I cant see how it can work on a mixed board as people viewing it in flat mode will just have their replies lumped at the bottom so it will make no sence whatsoever in threaded mode

I actually don't like threaded either, but I'd like to leave the choice to the user. There are some who prefer the threaded view.

I do like the mixed view; it's almost like threaded, but you can see which posts are replied to.

threaded works well on this forum using a script called "phorum"

Good point. But, on my yabbse board, there is a reply link with every mesage. So the threaded view would work with the posts made via this feature.

I don't like Threadview.

Current View is good and should not be changed.

I dont't want to change it, klumy, just to give the user the opportunity to change it if they are so inclined.

Edited for less violence against the Egnlish language.

i actually like the way it's done in vB 3beta..

Hybrid view is preety handy, i'd love to see it as a mod or maybe even implemented in SMF.

threaded view would require so much modding. I would hate to ever see it on a SMF board. It is a god awful sin that defeats the purpose of ever creating yabb. s

That's your opinion, but i'm sure a lot of people would like it..

But i guess you're right, it would require a lot of coding i'm sure..

I'm sorry to say this, but why the [cencored] would you want to implement threaded or mixed view in YSE/SMF? This feature might be good for some people, but there are separate forum software that only got this view, and I despise it. I hate it.
So I'm hoping that this will not be a feature in any of the SMF releases.

I was thinking about this today...how exactly would it display here? Only on the display screen when viewing a thread and it shows a threaded view or would you have it right on the messageindex as well?

It's a crazy view :)

If you look at the development forum, under the mod team, I posted a way this could be done.

Couldn't find it...but it's not how to do it but rather how would one want it to function.

PM me that link Unknown.

If its doable fairly easilly its a much requested (well now and then) feature so adding it might be nice.

Even though personally I hate it and fail to see how it can work on a mixed board.
