Hi,
I am the admin of a SMF 1.1.8 system, which has several private categories and forums.

Now, I need to create a new forum or category, which should be administered by another user. This user should be able to give access to this forum to other users, to create subforums, etc. However, he should not be able to see the other private forums existing in the system.

How can I do that? Thank you!
vim vs Emacs arguments are pointless and a waste of time: vim is the best.

The easy way: Set up multiple forums.

The hard way: I don't really know if that can even be done on a single SMF installation.

How you can help SMF

Yeah, I know I could install a second SMF on the same box, but if it's posible to get this setup in a single installation, I'd much prefer it.

Does anyone know how to do it? Thanks.

Step 1:
Admin -> Membergroups -> Add Group

Membergroup Name: {board_name} Moderator
Permissions: by type Moderator
Visible Boards: {board_name} ONLY!
-> Add Group

Step 2:
Admin -> Permissions

Modify {board_name} Moderator
Select which extra permissions you would like them to have

Step 3:
Add member you want as moderator for that board. They will only be able to moderate that board and that board only, and will be considered a regular member on any other board.

Step 4:
Repeat process for each board. That means a different membergroup for each board. It's tedious, I know.

If you are confused, I will help you if needed  ;D

Do you require any further help with this?
The requestable groups feature in 2.0 is the best way of allowing a user to add people to a private category
