Fresh install and database

Hello,
I'm a new user. I just did a fresh install on new host. I'm wondering that is it possible to import mysql database which is downloaded from another host into newly created SMF database with different name and server. If so, how can you do it without losing all user's information and data? I'd greatly appreciate some instructions. Thank you.

How do I restore the database data?

I'm trying to install fresh SMF with old phpbb database. Would you please give some instruction how to proceed without losing data from previous host and different settings for different platform which is phpbb. What method should I use here? Import from phpmyadmin, convert with script, merge the data.... do I have to delete the new SMF database in order to restore? Thank you.

Use a converter first. Make an installation of the appropriate version of phpBB and restore your databae backup to that installation, then run the converter to convert it to SMF. You will not have to delete the existing SMF database. The converter will take care of that side of things.
