Error uninstalling mods - Test Failed - Package manager issue??

I'm seeing some issues with my RC 1-2 install with a number of mods saying they install, but then not working.

I'm wondering if I have some bigger issues as when I try and uninstall, I get these kind of errors.

I'm wondering if it's a permissions issue or something else??

kat

It's not something as simple as those files being write-protected, is it?

gregh

load.php & post.php has permissions 644, subs.php has 777

kat

If the errors were saying that alterations couldn't be made, I could understand it. It looks like it's simply trying to replace whole files, though.

That's well-weird, unless I've misunderstood it all.

gregh

cheers Kat, at least your backing my theory up......just a case of working out why it's happening though!

I do have this installed at http::/forum.smartphonesoft.com which is a sub domain of www.smartphonesoft.com, could that have any bearing?

regards,

Greg

kat

Well, you could try this:

http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=18096.0

That would ensure that your paths are correct, at least.

gregh

Do you know if repair_settings works ok with SMF 2 RC 1-2?

gregh

ok tried repair_settings.php and also fix_ownership.php and neither have fixed the issue :(

gregh

Hmm, checking my logs from within SMF it shows:

Still looks like a permissions problem, to me.

"Access denied" can't be much else, I'd've thought.

gregh

I'm thinking the same Kat, but everything checks out as far as I can see, all files are owned by the FTP account.

Is there anything specific I can temporarily chmod to 777 and see if it fixes the issue?

Cheers,

Greg

kat

Yeah, easily.

If you go to Admin>Packages>Options, you'll see, at the bottom, file permissions stuff. If you set that to "All writable", it'll do the job. Expect a bit of a wait, though, coz it'll have to go through all the files.

gregh

Hmm, something wacky is going on, even setting it to "All writable" isn't working...

I set the following to chmod 777
httpdocs dir
sources dir
all files within the sources dir
packages/backup dir

And STILL I get these errors in the logs. I'm struggling to solve this now, and wonder about backup up the site and re-installing from scratch? What do you think? Are there any walkthru's on how to do this?

I seem to have somewhat the same issues. And i am totally not able to figure out what is the prob. I even renewed all forum files and uninstalled all mods, but the prob persists.

We had someone, a while back, who had similar hassles.

In the end, it turned-out that he didn't have full ownership of the site and the files on it.

Can you ask your host if you have full ownership?

They'll know what you mean. :)

gregh

Hi Kat,

Yes I have full ownership, this on a dedicated virtual machine. I have another domain on the same box running 1.10 which has been fine. I can get root access and change anything I want!!

Is there anything specific I need to check re "full ownership"?

Looks like this thread has the same issue....

Just a thought...

Do you have a "tmp" directory, inside your packages one?

If not, try making one and making it write-enabled.

gregh

I don't have a tmp, I have a temp.....just checking it wasn't a typo and you mean tmp? I will create one later when I am home......

kat

gregh

Ok, lots of things tried, still the same result :(

I noted that the subdomain directory, and the forum one underneath that were owned by root, so I changed them to be owned by the FTP owner and CHMOD'd them 777.

I then did the same for any directory underneath the subforum one.

I then created temp and tmp in packages and I still get the same errors :(

Any further suggestions, I am tearing my hair out on this one!

This is the first time I've installed SMF into a subdomain rather than a folder within my main domain, could that be having an affect?

regards,

Greg
