Instant Messaging in SMF?

Is there any system for SMF that can be used as an instant messaging chat privately between two users?

My users told me that private messages are too slow to really have a conversation with someone, and the shoutbox is too public for all conversations.

Any mods/ideas?

theres the quick chat function, you also have chat room scripts out and about like the flash chat which has a private message function but you have to pay for that one.

Indeed. With FlashChat, you can converse with individuals but as previously stated, you'd need to buy the application which costs about $5 .

for the record, flashchat is free, its now only the modules that cost five bucks.
