Dear...

We have problems now on our current version which we are running now:

SMF 1.1.10
EzPortal 0.3.2

In another topic (dutch language) is advised to use another portal as we encounter a lot of problems with our present portal.
(if you are dutch: pls read this post

Our forum gets a lot of errors (2000 pages per day!)

So we are considering to get another versions of smf and a different portal: Simpleportal

A lot of information is stored on our current version. To start all over will be a big problem but possible.

question: we are running SMF 1.1.10. Is it possible to upgrade this version to SMF 2.0 RC1.2? and that all our topics/posts including a lot of attachments will NOT be lost after upgrading if possible?

We hope te hear from you soon.

Kind regards
Katrien

Yes it is possible to upgrade and its pretty easy. Please be sure to backup your Database before starting the upgrade. I usually make two from the admincp (data and data & structure). Then I also make one in phpmyadmin, If you have room you can also test those before you starting the upgrade to  make sure the db backup is good. After you backup is made and tested then you can follow the directions in the docs I will link to and you should be set. I would however suggest that you may want to just do a file refresh to fix the problems with the current portal and wait until RC2 is released. This way you will get the new default theme and will not need to upgrade again so soon. If you get stuck please let us know and we will try to help.

Please read all of these before you start the upgrade.

How do I backup my SMF forum?

Dear Tyrsson

Thanks for your reply. Its a big study and a big step for us. I will communicate this to the other admins.

Do you know when version RC2 will be released?

Thanks for your help

I do not have a firm date for when RC2 will be made public. Its available to Charter Members now so it should not be too long.

Thanks..we have communicated with eachother and decided to wait for RC2.

In the meantime we hope we can fix our problems regarding all those errors and that The Burglar will help us.

Last I read PortaMx was not compatible with 1.1.10 which is what the OP is running.

Katrien Is this issue solved or do you still require assistance?

Thanks for your reply

We hope that you will give us some support when upgrading to RC2 when available. We are no specialists in this.
In our current version including EZPortal we have a lot of errors which is the reason of our upgrade. We hope this upgrade will make our forum stabel. Untill then we have to try to fix those errors.

here a few examples of the errors:

8: Undefined variable: current_action
File: /home/oneplace/domains/1place4nzb.eu/public_html/Themes/default/MessageIndex.template.php (main_above sub template - eval?)
Line: 532

8: Undefined variable: current_action
File: /home/oneplace/domains/1place4nzb.eu/public_html/Themes/default/EzPortal.template.php (main_above sub template - eval?)
Line: 535

8: Undefined variable: current_action
File: /home/oneplace/domains/1place4nzb.eu/public_html/Themes/default/Login.template.php (main_above sub template - eval?)
Line: 535

we have more or less 1500 pages! with these erros per day.

for us this problem is far from being solved. In another topic The Burglar!  is helping us to fix these errors in order to have a stabil forum untill RC2 is being released. But it seams to be a lot of work. This is a topic in the dutch language.

so we do not know if we must mark this topic as being solved.

It isn't but the lady is talking about upgrading to RC2, and PortaMx is available to charter members now for RC2 and will be to the public on RC2's public release! So it might be an idea to check it out in advance 8)

Those errors are being evaled, which means its not showing the correct location of the error in question, If you disabled temp eval and have the correct location of the errors please post them up  here if Bruglar is not able to assist you.

The easiest way would be to install this mod that adds a nice option in the AdminCP to turn it on or off.

http://custom.simplemachines.org/mods/index.php?mod=2054

or if you are comfortable with phpMyAdmin you can run this query to turn it off:

INSERT INTO smf_settings VALUES ('disableTemplateEval', 1);

Delete your error log.  Allow the error to happen again, then run this to turn the eval back on:

DELETE FROM smf_settings WHERE variable = 'disableTemplateEval';

Copy and post the errors here.

By the looks of it that may be a simple fix. It appears (just guessing by the line numbers) that the theme author used $current_action before it was defined. Can you please attach a copy of the file that is listed in the error please.
