Input Window Does Not Scroll

I am using SMF version 1.1.11

Please forgive me if this has already been discussed, but I couldn't find any reference to the fault whilst wading through all the threads here.

I run three forums using SMF 1.1.11 and the problem is the same for each.  When adding a post to a thread, or when starting off a new topic, typing into the input screen becomes a problem when the amount of text reaches the bottom of the window. The issue is the text window area does not stay scrolled.

I can very briefly see each letter I type, as I get a flash glimpse of it as the window jumps, but otherwise the lower area of my work is hidden.  This makes for very difficult editing of text in a long post.  I can click on the scroll bar at the side of the window and scroll, but the window does not stay put after release.

I have checked this on two computers, one desk top and one lap top, and it does it on both.  I have a couple of friends who use SMF also and they recently report the same fault. This isn't a problem that has always been around, but which started a few months ago.  I initially thought it was my computer at fault.

My work-around is to construct my work in Word and then copy and paste to SMF.  However, this is not ideal.

Interestingly enough, it also does it on this forum, so I have just found as I write this post.

Any ideas?

This is a well know bug in IE.

Try using another browser  ;)

I take on board what you say, and I was indeed using IE, but I have now tried it in Avant and the result is the same.

I could go installing one browser after another to find one that suits, but it is my forum visitors I am thinking of.  If it is a Browser problem then there will be nothing SMF can do abotu it I guess. :-\

I am running V 2.0 RC1.2 and just encountered the exact same problem on my boards.
Not about to use a totally new browser just so I can edit post's in my forum and can't imagine what users would say to this. Seems like its easier anymore to blame problems on IE than it is to work with the browser that most people use ;D

This is still a problem in 2.0RC3.
I cannot prevent my site users from using IE8, a very popular browser.

Would it be possible to have this fix in the final release?

This continues to be a problem with RC3, although a simple fix to the default theme was proposed months ago.

I can see the fix to GenericControls.template.php has been implemented, but the fix to create_control_richedit (in Subs-Editor.php) has not.

Would the fix proposed for GenericControls.template.php also work in create_control_richedit?
