Members cannot change passwords

My members can't change their passwords on my SMF board. I pre-registered their accounts, went into their profiles, and changed the authentication password. Now they're saying they are getting errors when they try to change the pass.

Yep. The password you entered was incorrect.

HAve they yet managed to log in at all, if they have no posts, basically nothing to lose, why don't you just let them register themselves.
