A few of my members consistency get this error message when viewing an attachment.

"Sorry you are not allowed to view this file. Make sure you are connected to the server"

I've tried everything and I can;t fix it for them. Any ideas?

I'm not sure one where it is, but in the directory where your attachments are saved, the privileges should be set to 0755.  That means User can read, write, and execute; group can read, and execute; and world can read, and execute.

Both members are regular members. They're the only two. I have other regular members who can see the files perfectly fine.

Tell both of them to clear their browser cache.  And you clear the forum Cache.

I'll try that. Thanks.

And thank you for the compliment. :)

Also, check the permissions.

If those members are in both post-count groups and non-post-count groups, there could be a conflict.

Main reason why my forum has no post-count groups. ;)

Dang. Haven't been able to access my site from my office desk. I can in the public cyber lounge, but I'm not allowed in there when I'm on the clock.   :(

I'll let you know if that solves it. Thanks K@

Question - I don't have any Regular member groups that do no require post counts. How do I change a post count group to a non post count group?

And if I delete a post count group where do the members go?

I have no idea where the members go, if you delete a post count group, to be honest.

You can change it to non-post-count based by clicking "Modify", beside the group and checking anything but "Post Based (Membership based on post count)" beside "Group Type:".

And new members will automatically jump to that group or is that another setting?

For some reason, you can't remove all the post-count groups. There has to be one.

New members will go to into that.

If you make the "Posts required" zero, you'll be OK.

You can move them into other groups as and when it's required.

I've done that. Waiting for those guys to log on to see if it worked. Thanks.

As everybody but those two members are getting the error, I think it's something to do with the way they're accessing the site, or something.

I assume they've emptied their caches, cookies and stuff.

Can you ask them to try a different browser, to see if that fixes it?

If it does, maybe we can investigate further.

Anything those two have in common?

Do they use Firefox, with "NoScript" installed?

Anything they might both be using, perhaps?

MATTEK

There's about 7 users who have the issue. Different browsers with different operating systems. Nothing but browsers seem to be in common, but people who CAN see them have the same browsers etc. So I'm not sure.

Cache, cookies, etc cleared. Latest java and flash updates are installed, etc.

I'm confused...

First, you say:

Then, you say:

They seem mutually contradictory, to me.  :(
