Member ID Count all wrong

Heya all!

I deleted quite a few members from my forum, and now they are gone along with their ids.
However, their ID numbers do not get alloted to new subscribers, so I have around 15 members, and one of the member has an ID of forty something..

Is there a way to number them correctly? So that the highest number actually tells me the total number of members on the forum? Running that recount maintenance task didn't quite help =/

Thanks a lot!  :D

There are a number of threads on this, Buraaq. Here's one which although is related to version 1.1.x should shed some light on how to do this...

Thanks a lot Yogibear, it worked fine! =)

However there is one small issues still.

The new members who join now dont get ID alloted in sequence. For example I had the max ID count number of 43, but when I modified all the tags, the max number became 18. I was hoping that if a new member joins in, he would get 19. But that didn't happen. Instead, the count continued from 44 and so on. Any idea how to fix this?

Thanks a bunch anyway  :)

Oya

manual sql query

alter table smf_members auto_increment = 20

this will reset it back to 20 for the next time
