In IPB, you can have the board automatically remove accounts that have not been activated after a certain amount of days.  In SMF, I don't see such an option.  I would like the board to automatically delete unactivated accounts after a certain amount of time (I don't like doing it manually).

It should also include a message in the activation email to the member telling them that the account will automatically delete after the designated amount of time.

Well, it's not quite what you are looking for, but you might like the Inactive Member Group Mover.

Personally, I've never understood why people would want even this to be automatic.  While I clean unactivated accounts from this forum, I do it after six months or more, after sending a reminder email first and waiting some time after that.  It's not like they're hurting anyone, and if they do both to activate themselves a bit late, it's only a benefit.

Plus, many people register here, for example, for the announcements.  They may not register because they forget to.  Surely this happens on other forums?

I think this shoud be a feature that comes stock.

But I agree with UK, who are they hurting. I mean in my experience a forum really only has 10-20 active members (normally) and a few hundred inactive members.  My community seems to come in waves, members will go forum crazy and really start burning it up , and then will take a hiatus and wont be active for months.

Plus let me give you a scenario I just thought of. A member registers, then formats, or for whatever reason doesn't come back. If their name remains in your member list, another member could PM them, or a thread that they are watching can come back to life , or something happens where they get a notification and remember/be reminded or your board and come back.

Perception is reality.  If forums only had the active members on it, the member list would look pitiful. New members would see that and say "wtf is this? 30 members!?", I rather goto to the other forum with 500 members, I surely will have a better chance of response there.

That's just my thinking.

But I still think sysop/admins should have the ability to do it.

PS- THANKS FOR MAKING SPELL CHECK A STOCK FEATURE!

What about members who have emails who have become inactive or canceled and still use the board. I have the pesty problem of having topic notifications bouncing back with quite a few active members. :(
