as this topic was related to the smf 1.0.5 release it was started over there but i directed it this way to keep it easy to follow.  This was my first message over there:

Quote
i was nervous about doing this one as the last one resulted in several hours troubleshooting (See last effort) - i went ahead however and everything was success until i clicked proceed and go this error:

An Error Has Occurred!
2: fopen(/home/****/public_html/forum/Sources/ManageMembers.php): failed to open stream: Permission denied
File: /home/****/public_html/forum/Sources/Subs-Package.php
Line: 1476

I thought perhaps this might be cause i didnt go directly to the forum bypassing mambo ie .com/forum .  So after this error i went straight to the smf forum ie .com/forum and it said i was now running 1.0.5.  But i looked at more details and two areas were still on 1.0.4 and templates are still on 1.0.1.  So i went to package manager and saw 1.0.5 and clicked apply mod and i got failure writing index.php but still clicked proceed and then got:

Check if your /Sources directory is writable and try again.

1.  sources directory is writeable and i dont know how i can try again because in my package manager the option of applying the mod is no longer there next to SMF 1.0.5 Update Package.  any ideas?

2.  Is there a problem that in 'detailed version check' my SMF Package is 1.0.5 , my Sources is 1.0.5, Default Templates and Languages are 1.0.4 and my Current Templates are 1.0.1?

Thanks ;)

xenovanis

Well, I see no problems and as long nothing is red in the Detailed Verson Check, I think you should be fine.

Hmmm why do i have "??" at the current edition row?

thanks for your reply ;)

the only thing that is red is Curent Templates where it says 1.0.1.  (edit: is that a problem?)

and as i said before ofcourse the whole lot is a mixed bag of versions now.

[Unknown]

Well your current templates weren't touched by the upgrade at all.

i cant update to 1.0.5 on my mambo/smf installation at all... :'(

Kindred

please be more specific...

you can't upgrade why?   What error do you get?   Have you tried accessing the forum directly to do the upgrade? (bypassing mambo in this case?)

oh and in case u were unsure , i was the first time i heard it, 'bypassing mambo' means typing in the path to the forum directly - in my case www.blalalalalala.com/forum

;)

basically,w hat happened firs twas, that in the package manager i got the wrong link to the update package, it gave me 1.0.4 instead of 1.0.5

the next thing was, is that i installed the package (i just corrected the path, which worked), and the installation seemed tow ork fine, but it turned out that it didnt change anything, i think the application of the package didnt work...

Kindred

tarantino....    did you actually click PROCEED?

i might not be the smartest guy around but i am not dumb :-))

yes i clicked proceed, its not the first SMF update i did. i just think the entire mambobridge thing is something soooo improvised...i dunno...
i am thinking of doing that website all over again and not integrate SMF at all...

Orstio

Actually, I had this same problem on another site, that does not even have Mambo installed.  The error is:

QuoteThe package you are trying to download or install is either corrupt or not compatible with this version of SMF.

The upgrade had to be manually.

Kindred

I didn't mean to be insulting... you're be surprised at the number of people who don't realize that the first "success/failure" screen is not the actual install...

I'd say use the manual update download, available here on SMF

(and then re-apply your mods, including the mambo integration mod)

Not meaning to hijack the thread, but i have a slightly related question that i thought id ask before i go on with what im planning and make matters worse...

Right now for some weird reason my forum has problems like pressing the quote ,bold, sup, sub buttons etc and not inputing any code (i have checked the use BCC code),no pop up windows opening on PM's and such but oppening seperate windows, when clicking on "questionmarks" the help reloads on the same screen and not in a popu up and a mixup with previous domain name when i click on the "Help" button (although i have changred all refferences to my old URl to show the new one).In other words i somehow turned my forum in a mess that i dotn know how to go about fixing.

I thought of just wiping the whole mambo/SMF clean and starting over but ,it would be less work if i could just reinstall SMF.How can i go about doing that?

I have two ideas:

1)THis would conserve language files and templates

  • Unistall bridge MOD only from SMF
  • Unzip the SMF 1.0.5 install package on my HDD
  • FTP it to the location of my current SMF (overwritting the files) and running install

2) Wipe SMF directory clean and put as above the install package and run install.php.

What do you think? I cant decide and im quite afraid that something can go wrong.Im somehow afraid that if i overwrite the files some files might not be overwritten. How can i make sure they are overwritten,CHMOD them all of my SMF web directory to "read and write" and then overwrite?

Another fear of me is that i dont know how it would react database wise.I have both SMF and Mambo in the same MySQL database and my fear is that a)it will either wipe clean the SMF tables (overwritting them) during install  or b) create a second set of SMF tables leaving me with duplicate tables one empty of info and the other with the old info....

Any educated input on my dilema ,is highly appreciated!

Kindred

Here's a trick... instead of using "install.php" when you load the fresh SMF install, use repairsettings.php  This will allow you to set the correct values in settings.php without overwriting the database.

So,because sometimes im thick as porridge, let me see if i got that straight.

I enter my forum from my forum path "www.mywebsite.com/smf"
I will unistall Ostrio's bridge from SMF (no need to unistall it from Mambo)
Then i download SMF 1.0.5 to my HDD and overwrite the existing SMF folder
Instead of install.php i will run the repair one (is it given in the package?)
I then delete BOTH install.php and repairsettings PHP because they can both cause security issues.
Then i install back the 3.19 for SMF 1.0.5 bridge

and...im good to go!

Is that all?

You should be more concerned about your database than your files.  You can always download new files, right?  The data you and your users have posted is irreplacable.  Make sure you backup the database before trying.

The upgrade had to be manually.

This is because 1.0 does not handle allow_url_fopen being off very well.  As described in the announcement topic, you can solve this by uploading the file to the Packages directory manually.

The installer will never overwrite anything.  If you run the installer again, it won't touch the database.

Psiloman, it sounds like you're having JavaScript problems.  These are probably caused by a javascript error elsewhere on your site.

Although this is the general rule for websites,my website is still at "Beta" test phase with only 2-3 members ,10-15 test messages and no articles in mambo ,so even if i loose them its no big deal.I have that on my mind for future problems since if my site grows that would be a disaster, crippling my community!

So what is the practical difference between the installer and the repair? What does the install do that the repair wont and vice verca? So i could run either of them?

QuotePsiloman, it sounds like you're having JavaScript problems.  These are probably caused by a javascript error elsewhere on your site.

Hmmm...I tried turning Java on in the forum option (the one that says it might cause security troubles) and...nothing.I tried my bold, quote etc etc code through Mambo called SMF ,didnt work lastly i called SMF on its own (www.thesite.com/smf) ,nothing! So the mambo doesnt interfere, which are the only two parts in my site that might need java.

I dont really know what im doing wrong and the forum has started misbehaving,in fact i dont know what im doindg ...at al! Ok,i have a faint clue but im one of those guys that must run here to ask for a "warning in line XXX" error  :-[ .
