custom admin permission?

Is there a way to add a custom permission to allow certain member groups to "admin" the custom profile fields for SMF2, instead of actually putting them in the administartor group. 

I have certain fields that only admins can edit, and would like help from some of my staff with those.

Nope.  Tried that.   I know what i'm doing.   Custom Profile Fields on smf2, have the option like "owner can see, only admins can edit"  ... but there is no permission to set it to any member group, at all.  Only members in the administrator group can modify those fields when set to admin only.
