Moving to a new Host: HOW to back up SMF Database?

Hi guys,

Thank you for all your help in the past

I need to leave Hostican and find a new web host, and I have to back up my SMF databases in the proper way, so that I may restore them once I locate a new home

What is the way to do this without corrupting anything? 

Can I backup the files through FTP, going through WHM or Cpanel, or do I have to do it through SMF?  How do I make sure the entire structure (images, etc) are intact?

I don't have anyone who is a friendly geek I can turn to, so I am determined to figure this out myself, but I appreciate all the help anyone is willing to give me
