Trouble converting from phpBB

I'm trying to convert my phpBB forum to SMF.  Whenever I try, i get this message. "Sorry, the database connection information used in the specified installation of SMF cannot access the installation of phpBB2. This may either mean that the installation doesn't exist, or that the MySQL account used does not have permissions to access it."  Can someone please explain to me what I'm doing wrong.  I'm new to MySQL.

Are both install in the same database?

So, you have both SMF and phpBB installed and they both use the same database? Are both forums working?

you know what...no, they're not on the same db.  sorry

If you're getting this error message, it means that the MySQL account used to install SMF could not access the MySQL database phpBB is using - if SMF can't see phpBB, clearly it can't copy data out of it!

One solution is to simply reinstall SMF in the same database as phpBB, with the same MySQL account.
