What files do I need to backup to make sure I have a complete backup of the board in case it gets hosed ? I see a file on my server with a .sql extension but that cant be the only file. It is only 35k and my board has 25000 posts.

Go into the Admin panel and choose forum maintenance, and download the backup.  The file on the server is not the backup it's a blank database.

Ok, I downloaded the backup. Now is the all important question. What if I need to restore the backup ? Where do I upload it? It seems the only place I can do that is in CPANEL.

Elmacik

you can do it in cpanel, you can do it in phpmyadmin, you can do it in smf administration panel..

It's about moving a DB to another server, but that's the same if it's a restore after a crash...

Greetz!
