No way to make "Allow users to turn off word censoring" a permission?

Am I missing something, or is the ability for users to turn off word censoring only available as a theme option, rather than something I can assign to a usergroup?  I want my users to be able to subscribe to a usergroup that turns off the filtering.

Arantor

No, there's no way to make it a permission.

However, leaving words censored is a theme setting - and more importantly, it's a theme setting that's also a user preference. Users can set it in their profile > look and layout preferences page, assuming you turn it on as a theme setting.

But then there's no way I can charge them for that ability, is there?

Arantor

Um, no.

I have seen it done once before and everyone just stopped using words that would be censored anyway.

OK, thanks.

What variable does this change in the database, so I can just turn the censor off for all my moaning members in one fell swoop?  Can't see any likely candidates in smf_members.

Arantor

It's not in smf_members, it's in smf_themes because it's a per-user variable.

Admin > Themes and Layout > Member Options

You can reset it in there for new members and for existing members - and you'll have to do it for each theme that you're actively using.
