I have tested how "Courtesy edit wait time" operates

and want to contribute to make it more courtesy.

If a User have posted and then entered to Modify the post
inside the "Courtesy edit wait time" period
then the Courtesy Time should prolong -
neither e-mail notice should be posted
nor the line of Last Editing Time should be added (or modified)
until a User Save the modified post.

After each next Saving of the modified post
"Courtesy edit wait time" should count from the zero.

There may be an unlimited number of courtesy editions
inside consequent repeating courtesy counts
befor the final e-mail notice would be sent to the subscribers.

This improvement request concerns e-mail notices
not only for new posts courtesy editing
but also courtesy editing of the past posts being modified.
{
Just in the last case we keep in mind
the "Subscribe to post modification" request
http://www.simplemachines.org/community/index.php?topic=50716.msg358634#msg358634 .
}

While it sounds like a great feature, there's one minor problem...

SMF only makes a note of when a post was last modified if the difference between the current time and the time the post was originally made is greater than the "courtesy edit wait time". This is also how SMF determines whether or not to display the "last modified by" line in the post.

This could be done, but it would require several major changes.
